Rice University senior golfer Frank Buttacavoli was recently named an All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Buttacavoli, a Miami Beach, Fla. and Ransom Everglades H.S. native, is majoring in pre-med and economics and he posted the lowest stroke average on the Rice golf team for 2004-05 at 74.6.
Selection for the award requires a minimum cummulative GPA of 3.2 and a stroke average under 76 for golfers classified as juniors or seniors and who have competed in 75 percent of the team's competitions during the season for which the award was given.
The Rice golf team leads the nation with 27 All-America Scholar selections among 16 golfers and has had at least one honoree every year since 1989.
