Men's Golf: Owls at Wells Fargo WAC Golf Championship
5/2/2005 Choudrant, La. -- The Rice Owls golf team competes Monday through Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Western Athletic Conference Golf Championship at Squire Creek Country Club (7,105 yards; par 72). All 10 WAC schools are participating.
Representating Rice, as it hopes to improve upon last year's ninth place finish, are Addison Awe, Frank Buttacavoli, Jeff Krakowiak, Parker LaBarge, and Matt Toohey.
SMU looks to repeat as champions, but will be fighting off Tulsa and Fresno State, the 2002 and 2003 title holders, respectively. The Mustangs placed three in the top seven in 2004 to claim the title. The WAC will crown a new medalist for the first time in four years. Tulsa's David Inglis joins Justin Leonard of Texas as the only players to win their conference tournament all four years. Nevada senior Casey Watabu and UTEP sophomore James Allenby are the top finishers from last year, tying for second and finishing two stokes back.
