Men's Golf: Owls Sign Two

Rice University head golf coach Dick Ellis has announced the signing of Kazuo Hoffman and Erik Petersen to National Letters of Intent to play golf for the Rice Owls. Hoffman is from Tiburon, Calif., and Marin Academy H.S. (San Fafael, Calif.), while Petersen is from Southlake, Texas, and Southlake Carroll H.S.

Hoffman has Junior Golf Ranking (All junior golfers - all classes in America ? over 3,000 ranked) of 173 nationally and 40 in California. He has an average tournament score to par of +0.15 with one win, four top-five finishes, and five top-10 finishes. Hoffman won the Sacramento City Junior Championship and placed second in the Seima Valley Junior Championship and in the Northern California Junior Championship. The incoming freshman also placed fifth at the California State Boys Junior Championship and sixth at the IIAJC- Big I- State Championship
(Calif.).

Petersen is currently ranked number 385 nationally and number 35 in Texas in the latest Junior Golf Rankings. He has an average tournament score to par (+1.51) and has eight top-five places and five top-10 finishes. Petersen won the Independent Insurance Junior Classic with a 68 and he placed second at the Arlington Heights Tournmant and second in the NTPGA Masters ? Terra Verde. He also placed third in the NTPGA Westcott ? Indian Hills and fourth at the USGA Jr. Amateur Qualifer. He was a member of 2004 Texas state 5-A championship team, named as second alternate for the 2004 USGA Jr Amateur, and he played in the national finals of the IIAJC ?The gig I? in both 2003 and 2004.

The duo join Kyle Kelly, from Cypress-Fairbanks, who signed in the fall as next season's incoming freshmen golf class.
