Many, La. -- The Rice Owls golf team concludes its fall schedule by competing in the Battle on the Bend, a three-day event from Monday, Nov. 7 through Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Cypress Bend Golf Resort (par 72; 6,739 yards). The tournament consists of 18 holes per day.
Hosted by the Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette, the competition includes 12 other schools (Rice, Centenary, Houston, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UT-Pan American, and Tulane).
Competing for Rice are sophomore Addison Awe, senior Parker LaBarge, junior Heon Young Lee, freshman Kyle Kelley, and sophomore Jeff Krakowiak. Awe leads the team with a 74.2 stroke average, while LaBarge follows at 74.6.
Rice mentor Drew Scott has been impressed with his charges since the last competition (Oct. 17-18 at the Squire Creek). "I think we've been really well lately and I'm looking forward to a high team finish," says Scott.
The Battle on the Bend is the final fall tournament and the Rice golfers will not be in action until the Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 7-8, 2006, at the Wildcat Golf Club.
