DALLAS - Senior Kristina Hoban and UTEP's Brooke Peugh took home the final 2005 Conference USA volleyball weekly honors after helping their respective squads to flawless marks in the final week of regular season action, the C-USA office announced. Hoban recorded her fifth triple-double performance of the season in a 3-1 win over Houston on Thursday to wrap up both squad's 2005 season. For the upset over the Cougars, Hoban posted 10 kills, 52 assists and 12 digs. The accolade marks Peugh's second, while Hoban earns her third this season. Peugh tallied 12 kills in a sweep of Tulsa on Sunday evening en route to earning the Miners a first-round bye in the 2005 C-USA Volleyball Championship, which will be held beginning Thursday at Rice's Autry Court. The rookie, who tops the Miners for attack percentage, hit .321 against the Golden Hurricane. The win helped UTEP post the best regular season finish since the 1989 squad.
Hoban recorded her fifth triple-double of the year and first in a four-game match as she helped the Owls to a 3-1 victory against the Cougars on Thursday evening to conclude the regular season for both squads. Hoban tallied 10 kills, 52 assists and 12 digs in the winning effort. She recorded four kills on six swings in game four as Rice dominated with a .500 hitting percentage in the decisive frame. The senior, who has recorded the fourth-most double-doubles on the season with 17, has helped her Owls post a 17-9 overall record this season. Hoban and company return to their home court, hosting the C-USA Volleyball Championship from Nov. 17-20. The sixth-seeded Owls face No. 11 seed Tulane at 6 pm on Thursday, with the winner advancing to take on No. 3 seed Tulsa on Friday.
