The Rice Owls golf team competes at the 13-team Baylor Invitational at Bear Ridge Golf Club in Waco, Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11. Last year at this event, the Owls finished sixth with an 893 score (295-304 -294).
This year's field includes host Baylor, George Washington, Lamar, La Tech, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Ark.-Little Rock, La.-Monroe, UT-Arlington, and UT-San Antonio.
"The team is excited about getting back to competition, says head coach Drew Scott. "This tournament has a lot of strong teams from our district; teams that we need to beat on a regular if we expect to make to NCAA Regional in May."
Making the trip for the Owls are freshmen Kaz Hoffman and Kyle Kelley, sophomores Addison Awe and Bobby Thomure and senior Park LaBarge. Thomure, by the way, is making his first fall appearance for 2005 and only the second in his career. Hoffman leads the Owls with the lowest stroke average at 72.6, while LaBarge follows at 74.8.
