CHOUDRANT, La. - The Rice golf team shot 291-298 in the first two rounds of the 2005 Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational Monday to place ninth at 589. Rice's Addison Awe and Jeff Krakowiak, both sophomores, lead the Owls with 146 scores. Awe shot 71-75, while Krakowiak went 72-74 as both are tied for 31st. Final round action concludes on Tuesday.
The University of Mississippi shot 11-under-par (565) as a team to take a five-shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round at the Squire Creek GC (72-7105).
Larry Blatt led the Rebels with a two-round total of seven-under-par 137 while four of the five Ole Miss golfers shot under par during the first 36 holes.
Texas-Arlington (570), Mississippi State (574), Louisiana-Lafayette (581) and Louisiana-Monroe (581) rounded out the top five teams through two rounds.
Louisiana-Monroe's Tim Kunick leads the individual standings after Monday, firing an eight-under-par 136, including a tournament low 66 during the first round.
