COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? Rice senior Rebeca Pazo received all-region honorable mention for the American Volleyball Coaches Association's west region, the AVCA announced Wednesday.

Pazo, a 5-11 outside hitter from Caracas, Venezuela, led the Owls to their best season on record at 25-5 (.833) and their first trip to the NCAA championships. She led Rice with 452 kills to finish her career as the school's all-time leader with 1,969, which also ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference. Additionally, Pazo ranked in the top 10 in the WAC this season in kills, hitting percentage, aces and digs.

Pazo was among five WAC volleyball players to be honored by the AVCA. She is now automatically nominated for all-America honors, which will be announced at the 2004 NCAA Volleyball Championships in Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 17.
