Swimming: Owls Fifth After First Day At SMU Classic

Day One Results

DALLAS -- Senior Urska Ros finished third in the 100-yard butterfly to pace the Rice swim team to fifth place in the team standings after the the opening day of competition at the SMU Classic Friday night in Dallas.

Rice has 102 points through eight events at the meet's halfway point. The Owls trail meet-leader SMU (164 points), Washington (141.5 points), South Carolina (135) and Indiana (128). Rice leads the University of British Columbia (98.5) heading into the final eight events on Saturday.

Ros posted a season-best time of 56.91 to finish third in the 100-butterfly. She also swam the butterly leg of the 400-medley relay where the Owls placed fourth with a mark of 3:56.24.

Rice's other top finishers included true freshman Brittany Massengale and senior Lauren Hill. Massengale took fourth in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:52.74 and Hill was fourth in the 100-breaststroke (1:06.40).

Saturday's meet action begins at 7:30 pm at the Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. Friday's results can be viewed at the link listed above.
