EL PASO ? The Rice volleyball team won its seventh-straight match with a 3-1 victory at Texas-El Paso, Saturday.

After faltering in the first game, Rice regained its composure, and rebounded for a 27-30, 30-18, 30-14, 30-15 victory. The win gives Rice a 14-2 overall record, 4-0 in Western Athletic Conference play. It is the best overall start since the 1987 team went 15-2, and the best league start in program history.

Rebeca Pazo and Rebecca Kainz each notched double-digit kills, with Pazo leading all hitters with 23. The all-WAC senior recorded her 11th double-double of the season, adding 15 digs against the Miners. Pazo hit .432 behind 23 kills on 44 attempts with only four errors, and helped Rice to the 13-6 blocking advantage with two.

Kainz hit .429 behind 11 kills on 21 attempts and only two errors. The Austin (Westlake HS) native had one solo block and three block assists in the win.

Rice returns home this week for a four-match home stand, beginning with Louisiana Tech Thursday, Oct. 7. First serve is set for 7 pm at Autry Court.
