Men's Golf: Owls Finish Second at El Diablo Intercollegiate

CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. Rice senior Drew Conrad tied for fifth to lead the Rice golf team to a second-place finish at the El Diablo Intercollegiate at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club.

Conrad shot a 74 in Tuesday's final round to go with rounds of 75 and 73 in the opening two rounds on Monday. His 222 strokes for the tournament tied him for fifth, six strokes behind Northern Illinois' Dave Emanuelson, who claimed the individual win with a 217. He shot a 71 in the final round to go with duplicate opening rounds of 73.

Junior Frederik Dejaeghere was the only other Owl to finish among the top 10. He fired rounds of 75, 74 and 74 to tie for seventh with 223 strokes.

Baylor claimed the team title with 879 total strokes in the six-man tournament. Only the top four scores were counted. Rice finished 14 shots behind the Bears having fired an 893 over the three rounds. Northern Illinois was third, five strokes behind Rice, with 898 strokes.

The Owls return to the tee box March 31-April 1 at the Border Olympics in Laredo.
