Men's Golf: Philips Leads Owls Again

Rice freshman Scott Philips carded a 147 over the first two rounds to pace the Owls to a 13th-place standing at The Prestige at Palm Desert, Monday, on the Dessert Willow-Firecliff Golf Course, in Palm Desert, Calif.
Philips is knotted in 26th-place after shooting a 75 on the first 18 holes, followed by a 72 on the second. Fellow freshman Ryan Morgan posted a 150 on the day and stands in a tie for 52nd-place. Sophomore Bradley Lane fired an 81 on the first round, but bounced back with a 71 on the second for the lowest round by an Owl on the day. He stands tied at 64th.
Senior Chris Connolly belted a 153 (T72nd), freshman Winn Smith carded a 159 (T85th) and senior Frederik Dejaeghere scored a 162 (T88th).
On the day, the Owls fired a 600, finishing the day with a 296, over the final 18 holes. Stanford leads the team competition after shooting a 564, while Pepperdine's Alex Rodger leads all the individuals with a 136, that included a 64, the lowest round of the day.
The final round will begin on Tuesday at 10 am (CST) with a shotgun start.
