Women's Basketball: Blue Team Wins Intrasquad Scrimmage, 67-54

The Blue team, guided by assistant coach Wooly Hatchell, took a 33-27 halftime advantage on the strength of sophomore Kim Lawson's 11 points and the squad hitting 11 of 13 from the free throw line. Freshman Kate Beckler led the Gray team, coached by assistant coach Shanice Sandford, with 12 points in the opening period.
In the second half, junior Jennifer Rigg came on strong with 14 points, including shooting a perfect six of six from the charity stripe. She finished as the game's top scorer with 18 points. Beckler and Lawson each finished the game with 17 points. Junior Aarika Florus added 12 points for the Blue team, while senior Kenya Tuttle finished with 10 for Gray.
The Rice women tip off the regular season at Autry Court against South Carolina on Friday at 7 pm in the preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament.
