Due to inclement weather only two rounds were played, but the Owls battled the conditions and moved up the leaderboard three positions after carding a 298 on the final round.
Philips again played solid, bettering his first round score by a stroke finishing with a 74 on the day and a 149 for the tournament. He finished in the six-way tie for 11th-place.
Senior Chris Connolly continued is torrid play, by shooting a 73 on the final round. Connolly finished in a tie for 20th, with a 151. Ryan Morgan and Bradley Lane placed 27th and 32nd, respectively, while Winn Smith finished in 55th.
Rice's head coach Clay Homan is pleased with the way the young Owls are progressing.
"We played much better than we did in the first round," Homan said. "We played the par threes pretty well, for the most part, and finished well. We're just getting better and better."
Arkansas-Little Rock won the team title by posting a 591 over the two-day period. Southwest Texas State's Gabe Reynolds won individual medalist honors with a 144.
Rice returns to action on November 6, when the Owls travel to Palm Desert, Calif., for The Prestige at Palm Desert.
