Golf: Owls Place Ninth at SMU Tournament

Mallon tied for 12th in the individual standings, 14 strokes behind Baylor's Adam Pellegrom, who carded a 207. After shooting a pair of 72s on Monday, Mallon finished Tuesday's round with a 77 to finish with 221 strokes over the two-day, three-round tournament.
Pellegrom, who also won last week at The Crown Classic in Lufkin, shot a seven-under-par 65 in the tournament's opening round and then finished with two 71s on the 6,908-yard, 72-par course, but it was not good enough to lead Baylor to the team championship. Kent claimed the team title by 12 strokes in front of North Texas. The Bears finished fourth. Rice, which was in third place after Monday's first two rounds, turned in a 322 in the final round.
The Owls next play at the Missouri Bluffs Intercollegiate, Oct. 11-12 in St. Charles, Mo.
