Entering her senior season, Maynard has received preseason all-America honorable mention from Street and Smith, and named to the Houston Chronicle all-greater Houston first team and the Texas Basketball Magazine all-state first team. Last season, the 5-10 guard guided her team to it's seventh consecutive District 18-4A title as the War Eagles advanced to the Region III semifinals. During the season, Maynard averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists a game. She is also a starter for the Oak Ridge volleyball team.
"Lindsey is a very talented young lady who will be concentrating on basketball in college," McKinney said. "We are very excited to add another talented local girl to our roster."
Beckler, also a guard, will check into the 2000-2001 Rice lineup at 5-8. A combination 1-2 guard, she averaged 19.6 points an outing as a junior. Beckler is also a force for her team defensively, averaging 5.1 steals and 4.2 rebounds a game during the 1998-99 season. "Kate is a very skilled player and a a good shooter," said McKinney. "She will be an asset to our program with her skills and her ability to make things happen."
The Lady Owls have a total of four scholarships available for next season and will continue on the recruiting trail for the remaining two spots.
