- Email:
Steven Jackson joined the Owls staff in December of 2024 as General Manager after serving on Scott Abell’s Davidson staff since 2018.
In his role with the Owls, Jackson will evaluate all aspects of constructing the Owls' current and future rosters. Jackson will guide Rice's evaluation of high school prospects and their recruitment, as well as transfer portal student-athletes. He will also direct the Owls' weekly evaluations of the teams' performance and those of their upcoming opponents during the season.
Jackson originally joined Abell’s staff at Washington & Lee as the defensive line coach in 2017 and followed him to Davidson, first as the Wildcats’ special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach, then adding defensive run game coordinator to his title in 2020.
Before the 2022 campaign, Jackson was promoted to Assistant Head Coach.
Jackson played an integral part in Davidson’s total defense ranking nationally three times, highlighted by its 2019 performance.
The Wildcats ranked among the Top 25 in the nation defensively in several statistical categories: Total Defense (4th), Rush Defense (10th), Pass Defense (10th), Opponent First Downs Allowed (6th), and Opponent Third Down Conversions (12th).
Since 2018, 14 of Jackson’s defensive linemen have earned Pioneer Football League all-conference recognition.
Two of Jackson's Washington & Lee defensive linemen garnered post-season awards in 2017, and the unit led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in sacks (26) and rushing yards allowed per game. In 2017 the Generals defensive ranked number one in scoring and total defense in the ODAC.
Before W&L, Jackson was an assistant football coach and Foundations of Technology teacher at South Hagerstown High School in Maryland from 2012-2016. As an assistant coach, he served as the offensive coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator, and offensive line coach.
Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Shepherd University in 2012. He was a four-year starter on the offensive line and was a team captain for his senior season. He was a two-time all-conference honoree, including as a senior when he received First Team All-WVIAC, First Team All-Region, and All-America honors. As a junior, Jackson helped lead the Rams to a conference title and the NCAA Division II Semifinals.
In high school, Jackson was an all-district, all-region, and all-state honoree at Amherst County, leading the Lancers to a state championship in 2007.
Jackson and his wife, Lisa, have been married since 2012 and are the parents of three children Mack (6), Ada (3), and Cam (five months).
