Mike Statzula joined the Rice University Sports Medicine Department in 2026. He is responsible for managing the health care of the Men's and Women's Tennis programs.
Mike is a graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University where he earned a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He received his master’s degree in Athletic Training from PLNU where he worked with University of San Diego men's soccer and women's basketball teams and a year at UC San Diego with the Men's basketball program. Mike also had the opportunity to work with the San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby. Mike is joining the Owls after 3 seasons at UC Santa Cruz with the women's volleyball and basketball team.
His professional interests include mental health awareness, data analysis for return to sport, and athlete development through holistic monitoring.
Mike is currently a member of the NATA, and NSCA. Mike is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and enjoys playing disc golf and watching baseball.
