Kevin Dwan
- Title:
- Deputy Athletic Director for External Affairs and Revenue Generation
Kevin Dwan was named the Owls' new Deputy Athletic Director for External Affairs and Revenue Generation on July 11, 2024.
Dwan comes to South Main from VCU, where he served as the Rams' Senior Associate Athletics Director of External Relations since September 2021.
"Kevin is a proven leader and innovator who has successfully navigated the changing landscape of collegiate athletics to maximize his school's revenue potential as part of an all-encompassing strategic marketing and communications plan," McClelland noted. "He impressed us right away with his vision for Rice Athletics and his ambitious plan to elevate our initiatives."
"I would like to thank Tommy McClelland and the leadership team at Rice for this incredible opportunity," Dwan said. "I look forward to joining one of the premier institutions in the country and working with our student-athletes, coaches, and staff to help take the Owls to the next level. My family and I are so excited to be a part of the Rice family."
In his three years at VCU, Dwan served on the Senior Leadership Team and provided oversight and strategic direction of external operations, including revenue generation. During that time, Dwan and his team grew revenue by more than 22%, including 70% growth in Olympic sport ticket revenue.
He joined the Rams after two years as Senior Associate A.D. for External Operations for Revenue Generation and Brand Management at William & Mary. William & Mary led the Colonial Athletic Association in average men's basketball attendance in 2019-20, the program's highest mark since the 1984-85 season.
Prior to William & Mary, Dwan was the Associate A.D. for Sales and External Relations at Navy from 2015-19, where he had direct oversight of ticket sales, advertising, creative services, and the Blue & Gold annual fund. His tenure was marked by a 30-percent increase in ticket and gameday-related revenue, and Navy set department records for football ticket revenue in 2017 and again in 2018.
Dwan served as a regional vice president for the global sports marketing firm The Aspire Group for three-and-a-half years, where he managed on-campus operations for several collegiate clients, including Army, Seton Hall, Minnesota, and a host of others. He also served as a consultant to partners in revenue enhancement, strategic marketing, and market research and as Director of Sales and Service for the United States Military Academy at West Point. His work at Army helped generate an additional $1.2 in revenue through growth in ticket sales, fundraising and other strategic initiatives.
Prior to Aspire, Dwan held the position of Director of Marketing and Sales within Richmond's athletic department from 2008-11 and was Assistant Director of Ticket Operations at Wichita State from 2007-08.
He is a 2004 graduate of Lynchburg where he played baseball for all four years.
