Eric George joined Rice University in December 2023 as the Assistant Vice President & Deputy Athletic Director. In his role, he effectively serves as the chief operating officer, managing the department's day-to-day operations and overseeing the business office, HR, facilities and events, capital projects, sports medicine, and sports performance areas. George represents the Athletic Department on several university committees and is the sport administrator for the football and men’s golf programs.
George previously spent nearly 4 years at Mississippi State University, where he served as the Deputy AD / CFO, and he spent the four and a half years before that at Clemson University, where he was the Associate Athletic Director / CFO during the most successful stretch in the department’s history. He began his career in college athletics at the University of Texas in 2013, where he served as the Assistant Business Manager for two and a half years. Before working in intercollegiate athletics, George worked in public accounting for two years as an international tax consultant at Deloitte in Dallas, earning his CPA license there.
George was selected as the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) Manager of the Year in 2023 and was named to the On3 Rising Star list for College Athletic Administrators in 2022. He has been an active member of CABMA, having served on both the Program and Membership committees numerous times over the years, and he was a two-time mentor in the CABMA Mentor Me program. He is also a 2020 graduate of the Sports Management Institute.
A native of College Station, Texas, George graduated with honors from Texas A&M in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting) and a Master’s degree in Accounting. He was a member of the A&M football team from 2005-2006. He is married to Lauren, and the two have two daughters – Annabelle and Harper.
