SOAR Career and Professional Development
In collaboration with The Center for Career Development here at Rice University,
our SOAR Office offers practical training geared toward career and professional development for our Rice student-athletes. These opportunities are meant to assist them as they begin their discovery of self through skill assessments, career planning, goal setting, resume reviews, interview preparation, and other useful programming. Annually, our department implements and/or supports events
that give our Rice Owls an opportunity to put their practical career training into action.

Our annual Beyond the Hedges event is designed to provide Rice Student-Athletes with the opportunity to test their professional preparation in a safe environment. Students and professionals participate in an interactive “speed interview” activity followed by an open networking session allowing Rice Athletes to connect with Alumni, Letterwinners, Employers, and Houston Community Members. While the SOAR Office is committed to career and professional development on a daily basis, we intentionally dedicate ProfessionOWL Development Weeks throughout the year for Rice student-athletes to strengthen their skills in preparation for the Rice CCD Career Expo and Beyond the Hedges, and other career related events. This week is meant to provide workshops, programs, and career counseling to ensure they are confident to attend and show up as their best selves!
The Center for Career Development (CCD) is located in Huff House and exists to help you find and make your place in the world by: Educating you on knowledge of self, career options and resources, Connecting you with opportunities through the global Rice network, and Empowering you with skills, tools, and confidence. Our collaboration with the CCD has been a tremendous asset for our student-athletes.

Welcome to the SOAR Office Career Corner ! Whether our Rice Owls are pursuing careers in professional sports, law, education, engineering, architecture, marketing, or another field, we want to provide them with the resources and connections to transition successfully into life after Rice where they are equipped to soar!
