Ogunlana named American Offensive Player of the Week

IRVING — Rice volleyball senior middle blocker Lademi Ogunalana was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Ogunlana helped lead the Owls to a 2-1 record at the Rice Invitational II, where she was also named to the All-Tournament Team. She hit a team-best .471 over the weekend, which ranked second in the conference, and averaged 2.80 kills per set.
She also paced the team with nine total blocks. Ogunlana opened the week with a match-high .588 hitting percentage and a season-high 11 kills, along with six blocks, in a sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Her 14.5 points led all players in the match.
She followed with 11 kills on .450 hitting in a win over Cornell. In the Invitational finale against No. 9 TCU, she recorded six kills and hit .357, adding two blocks.
Through 11 matches, Ogunlana leads the American with a .388 hitting percentage.
Rice (4-7) opens conference play at home Friday against Temple.
