HOUSTON — As it prepares for its inaugural season in 2026-27, Rice Women's Golf announced an agreement with Westwood Golf Club that sees Westwood become the home of Rice University Golf, after having been the home to Rice University Men's Golf since 2022.
"We are incredibly honored and grateful to partner with such a prestigious and historic club," said Rice Head Coach Joanne Berglund. "Westwood Golf Club, known for its championship-level course, outstanding practice facilities, and welcoming community, will provide our student-athletes with an exceptional environment to train, compete, and represent Rice University at the highest level in collegiate golf. We extend our heartfelt thank you to the Westwood Board of Directors, staff and membership for their generosity and support as we welcome our inaugural class of Rice Women's Golf. We are excited to officially call Westwood Golf Club the home of Rice Golf."
The long-term agreement will allow the Women's Golf program to take advantage of Westwood's 2,600 square-foot facility that features three hitting bays equipped with the latest technology for the team to video their swing as well as measure the force they produce from the ground up with Swing Catalyst, analyze their putting stroke with the Sam Putt Lab system, and evaluate ball flight and swing data with TrackMan. The facility will include a dedicated meeting room for Rice.
"Our club is excited to continue our partnership with Rice in adding the Women's Golf team, said Westwood General Manager Andrew Riddle. "We've seen the growth of the Men's team and look forward to seeing the Women's team strive for greatness while at Westwood."
Westwood Golf Club, originally founded in 1928 as Westwood Country Club, has the distinction of being the second oldest Private Golf Club in Houston on its original site. The Club was founded by thirty prominent families with the desire to promote the spirit of brotherhood among its members by supporting and maintaining a private club for the promotion of outdoor life.
