
Two Owls Receive Honorable Mention

IRVING – Rice setter Kaia Mateo and middle blocker Arissa Smith earned American Conference Honorable Mention recognition, the league announced Monday.
Smith led the conference this week with 11 total blocks, averaging 1.83 per set. She added 15 kills over the weekend and continues to lead the Owls while ranking among the league leaders with 1.05 blocks per set this season.
Mateo tallied 64 assists this week, averaging 10.33 per set, while guiding the Owls to a .264 team hitting percentage. She also contributed across the board with 13 digs and seven blocks, including one solo against South Florida.
Since stepping into the starting lineup on Sept. 28 against Tulsa, Mateo ranks second in the conference with 9.94 assists per set.
Rice (9-8, 5-1 American) will face Tulane on Wednesday and host Wichita State on Sunday. Both matches can be streamed on ESPN+.
