
Swimming Opens Competition at SMU Invite

In Brief: Rice swimming stands in fifth place with 170 points following the opening day of the SMU Invite at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center in Dallas, Texas. The Owls recorded six top-five finishes on Thursday.
The Details: The Owls were led on the day by senior Imogen Meers, who registered three top-five finishes, including two podium finishes. Meers placed third in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.93) and the 50-yard freestyle (22.61). Meers' time in the 50-yard freestyle ranks third all-time at Rice. Meers also teamed with juniors Arielle Hayon and Morgan Bartley plus freshman Neta Ussishkin in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quarter finished fifth with a time of 1:32.26. Hayon also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly, the top finish of the day by an Owl, with a time of 52.95. Graduate senior Shannon Campbell and junior Amelia Kane placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 4:48.81 and 4:53.76.
