Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Ella Dyson has been named The American Athletic Conference's Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week on the strength of her recent accomplishments.
The freshman from Marlow, England led Rice to the CSCAA National Open Water Championship in December by winning the individual title, covering the 5K course in 58:08.88. She returned to action last weekend in a triple dual at SMU, winning both the 1,000 and 500 freestyles, and placing third in the 200 free as Rice swept to wins over SMU 171.5-161.5, North Texas 254-93, and Tulane 247-68.
She is the third Rice swimmer to earn weekly honors in the Owls' first season of competing in The American, joining Zoe Spitz (October 25) and Arielle Hayon (November 22).
Rice will wrap up its dual swimming schedule on January 28 at Houston and will begin its pursuit of a first American Athletic Conference championship on February 15 in Dallas when the four-day competition begins in Dallas.
