HOUSTON — After a historic season, Rice Volleyball head coach Genny Volpe was named one of four nominees for the Houston Sports Awards Coach of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday.
Volpe is joined by Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, Northshore High School head football coach John Kay and the University of Houston men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson.
She led the Owls to a 27-4 record, tying the most wins in her 19-year career, while helping the team to her third Conference USA Tournament Championship and the school's eighth berth in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round.
Under Volpe's tutelage, the Owls placed five players on the All-Conference USA team, including three-time Setter of the Year Carly Graham and Libero of the Year Nia McCardell. Graham, along with Anota Adekunle, also earned AVCA Southwest All-Region honors.
The 2023 Houston Sports Awards will take place January 25 at the Wortham Center.
