Adekunle Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week

Middle blocker had career performance vs. SMU
DALLAS – Following the best performance of her career against the SMU Mustangs last Saturday, Rice junior middle blocker Anota Adekunle was selected the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.
Over eight sets, Adekunle amassed 41 kills (5.12 kills per set) on 73 attacks for a highly efficient .493 hitting clip. Adekunle played a major role in helping guide the Owls to their first win of the season by setting a school record by a middle blocker with a career-high 28 kills on 44 attacks (.568). The 28 kills were tied for the most by a C-USA player this season and the .568 hitting percentage ranked second.
Adekunle began the week by posting 13 kills on 29 attacks (.379) against the No. 13 Oregon Ducks.
The C-USA Offensive Player of the Week award is the second in Adekunle's career. The Humble, Texas native is now hitting .463 for the season and averaging 3.53 kills per set.
The Owls (1-3) are back in action this Tuesday, Sept. 7 when they host crosstown foe Houston Baptist at 6 p.m. from Tudor Fieldhouse.
