Volleyball Starts C-USA Play at North Texas

SETTING THE SCENE
The Owls concluded the non-conference season on Wednesday against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and now set their eyes on Conference USA action, beginning this weekend for a series at North Texas. Once again this year, league play will consists of two-match series against the same opponent with the Owls playing three series on the road and three at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice (5-5) fell in straight sets to the top-ranked Longhorns at Tudor Fieldhouse, capping off a rigorous non-conference slate that included four matches against teams ranked in the Top-15.
North Texas (7-5) dropped three of their final five matches to conclude non-conference play, including a 3-0 loss to Illinois back on Sept. 18. The Mean Green rank 58th in the NCAA this season in hitting percentage (.250) and are 26th in the country in total aces (80). Senior outside hitter Rhett Robinson currently ranks fourth in the NCAA this season in attack per set (12.97), kills per set (5.16) and points per set (5.70). Senior middle blocker Sarah Haeussler is ranked seventh in the nation in total blocks (62).

NOTES
- Dating back to 2014 the Owls are 80-20 (.800) in Conference USA play, which includes a 37-3 (.925) record the last three seasons. Rice went undefeated (12-0) in league play for the first time in program history this past spring.
- The Owls are receiving votes for a fourth straight week in the latest AVCA Coaches' Poll.
- Senior outside hitter Nicole Lennon ranks second among active NCAA Division I players in career kills with 1,883, trailing only Baylor's Yossiana Pressley (2,079). Lennon is also approaching the Rice school record for career kills, which is held by Rebeca Pazo (1,969 kills), who played from 2001-04. This season Lennon ranks 25th in the NCAA in kills per set (4.33) and is 11th in attacks per set (12.67).
- Junior setter Carly Graham is second among C-USA players in assists per set (10.29) and leads the Owls with five double-doubles.
