
Owls Sweep McNeese at Baylor Classic

Rice faces No. 1 Texas Longhorns next Wednesday
WACO, Texas – The Rice Owls volleyball team recorded their fourth sweep in their last five matches as they took down the McNeese Cowgirls in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-18) Friday evening on day two of the Baylor Classic.
Rice (5-4) trailed just once the entire match as they dominated the Cowgirls (5-4) in their final non-conference match away from Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls hit a season-best .389 while limiting McNeese to a .073 clip. Rice held a 77 percent sideout rate.
Junior middle blocker Anota Adekunle led all players with 12 kills on 17 attacks (.706) to go along with a match-high 7 blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Owls never trailed in a dominant opening set, winning 25-13 behind a .444 hitting percentage. Adekunle totaled four kills in the frame on five attacks and was one of six different Owls to register points.
Second Set
Rice trailed just 1-0 but never did the rest of the match, cruising to a 25-16 victory. Nicole Lennon added five kills on 10 attacks in the frame and Rice hit .355 as a team.
Third Set
The Owls outhit McNeese, .394-.032 en route to a 25-18 victory. Adekunle helped put the match away with five kills on six attacks while Sahara Maruska totaled four kills on nine attacks.
UP NEXT
The Owls will return home to Tudor Fieldhouse next Wednesday, Sept. 22 when they host the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns at 6 p.m. in the non-conference finale. Tickets are available on RiceOwls.com and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
