Owls Awarded AVCA Team Academic Award

13th consecutive season
HOUSTON – For a 13th consecutive season and 17th time overall, the Rice University volleyball team under the direction of head coach Genny Volpe received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Monday (July 19).
Rice, who posted a cumulative GPA of 3.54, was one of 243 Division I programs that earned the academic award. The Owls have received the AVCA Team Academic Award every year starting in 2008-09.
Last season the Owls placed 13 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while Nicole Lennon and Carly Graham earned spots on the C-USA All-Academic Team. In addition, Lennon was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and later earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale of a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
