Owls Sweep Roadrunners for 8th Straight Victory

Rice hits .376 for the match
SAN ANTONIO – The Rice Owls volleyball team dominated the UTSA Roadrunners in a three-set sweep (25-10, 25-20, 25-13) Monday afternoon at the Convocation Center, the team's eighth straight win overall.
Rice (9-3, 8-0) continued to impose their will on Conference USA by improving to 33-3 in their last 36 league matches over the last three seasons. The West division-leading Owls outhit the Roadrunners (3-9, 1-5) .376 to .058 and posted a sideout rate of 75 percent.
Senior outside hitter Nicole Lennon paced the Owls with a match-high 11 kills (.348) to go along with nine digs, six blocks, and a pair of service aces. Junior middle blocker Anota Adekunle added nine kills on 14 attacks (.571) while sophomore right side hitter Ellie Bichelmeyer contributed eight kills (.375).
Junior setter Carly Graham filled the box score in a variety of ways, tallying a career-high seven kills to go along with 27 assists, seven digs, and four service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Owls cruised to a 25-10 opening set victory after hitting .387 as a team with four kills apiece from Bichelmeyer and Lennon. Adekunle, Kostelecky, and Maruska all had two kills as well as the Owls led from start to finish after jumping out to a 7-0 lead.
Set 2
After UTSA jumped out to a 5-3 lead, Rice went to work by going on a 17-run. The Owls held the Roadrunners to just a .068 hitting percentage for the set. Graham recorded five kills in the set on seven attacks while Adekunle added four kills on seven attacks.
Set 3
Rice hit a sizzling .542 in the final game with 15 kills on 24 attacks and only two errors. Lennon helped close out the match strong with four kills on four attacks while Adekunle and Sahara Maruska added three kills apiece.
