One of 10 finalists remaining
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Rice Volleyball outside hitter Nicole Lennon has been named as one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award®, the organization announced on Thursday (11/4).
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through December 6th. Fan votes will then be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Lennon has etched her name throughout the Rice record book, including becoming the program's all-time leader in career kills earlier this season. She has twice been named the C-USA Player of the Year and last season was named a 2020-21 AVCA All-America Third Team selection. She is currently the only active player in NCAA Division I with over 2,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
In the classroom, Lennon has twice been named to the C-USA All-Academic Team and last year was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Lennon has been very active in the community, assisting with The FORGE for Families and Houston Food Bank, as well as spending time as a Peer Wellbeing Athletic Advisor.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
