Spitz and Hayon Sweep Events at Fall Splash

In Brief: Arielle Hayon, Zoe Spitz picked up event wins for the second day in a row and Becca Evans anchored a second victorious relay to close out the 2021 Fall Splash at the Rice Competition Pool on Saturday. Houston rode a strong finish over the last five events to win the event, 191-143.
The Details: The Owls opened the morning in thrilling fashion with Evans reprising her anchor performance to end Friday's action by out-touching Houston's Emma Wright for the second time in as many days as Rice won the 200 medley by .14. Hayon added a 200 fly win to her 100 fly effort on Friday and Spitz followed with a win in the 100 backstroke to complete a sweep of the backstroke events.
Seth Huston: "I was pleased with how the team competed this weekend. We are coming off a tough training cycle and this was as much about seeing how the team responded to that adversity. It was great to see our newcomers make significant contributions this weekend. The double wins in the fly by Arielle Hayon and Lauren McDougall's individual and relay wins were a big boost."
Up Next: The Owls will be back in competition when they hold their Blue-Gray meet on Friday, October 29 as part of Rice's Homecoming festivities.
