Owls Win 10 Of 14 Swim Events
Limberg posted a 1:05.02 to lead a 1-2-3-4 Rice finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. She returned later in the meet to swim a 2:22.25 in the 200-breaststroke as the Owls once again claimed each of the event's top four spots.
Other Rice winners included Shannon Campbell in the 1000-freestyle (10:22.08), Zoe Spitz in the 100-backstroke (57.92), Rebecca Brandt in the 200-butterfly (2:06.42) and Lindsay Mathys in the (52.99). The duo of Becca Evans (200-free, 1:54.90) and Imogen Meers (200-back, 2:02.69) both won individual events and swam on two winning Owl relays. Rice head coach Seth Huston liked seeing the Owls on top of the medal stand.
The meet was a great finish to our winter recess training camp," Coach Huston said. "The team has been so positive, stepped up to challenges and really had great focus. Today, we raced very well, executed race plans and got out of our comfort zone, swimming some different events.
"We had a lot of standouts today - Becca Evans and Becca Brandt, Imogen, Lindsay and Nicole," Huston added. "I was also encouraged by Lauren Brantley and Briana Gellineau's racing today. They had some strong performances despite the training fatigue."
With four-straight dual meet wins the Rice swimmers are next in action at crosstown rival Houston on February 3. Start time at the Cougar Rec Center Natatorium is set for 4:30 pm.
