Volleyball Announces Spring Schedule

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls volleyball team released their much anticipated 2021 spring schedule on Tuesday, one that includes a total of 18 matches of which eight will be played at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Conference USA postponed the fall season this year after the NCAA Board of Directors decided to move the fall championships to the spring due to COVID-19.
The Owls will open the 2021 spring season with a pair of matches against crosstown foe University of Houston, beginning first on the road on Jan. 22 before hosting the Cougars for the home opener on Jan. 24. Rice then travels to SMU for a pair of matches Jan. 29-30 in advance of the start of C-USA play.
Rice will host a trio of C-USA teams and play each opponent twice, including Louisiana Tech (Feb. 7-8), UAB (Feb. 21-22), and North Texas (Mar. 7-8). The Owls will travel within conference to Southern Miss (Feb. 14-15), UTSA (Feb. 28-Mar. 1), and UTEP (Mar. 14-15).
Following the conclusion of conference play, the Owls will face a pair of Big 12 powerhouses, beginning on Mar. 19 when they host last year's national runner-up Baylor Bears. Rice will then travel to Texas on Mar. 23 for a rematch of last year's thriller against the Longhorns.
Any C-USA matches that need to be made up will take place Mar. 27-28 while this year's C-USA Championship will be held in Hattiesburg, Miss. and run April 1-3.
