First road win over SMU since 2014
The Lead: Jacob Eskeland picked up his first career dual win over a ranked player while Sumit Sarkar added a win over the 68th ranked singles player to lead Rice to a 6-1 win over SMU at the SMU Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.  The win was the first road win for the Owls (9-7) over the Mustangs (9-8) since 2014.
Doubles: All three matches were tight battles before the Owls surged late to take 6-4 wins at the second and third lines. Jacob Eskeland and Daniel Warren finished first and Mohamed Abdel Aziz and Campbell Salmon clinched the point when SMU double faulted at deuce with Rice leading 5-4.
Singles: Abdel Aziz and Salmon rode the momentum of their doubles clinch into singles, posting a pair of quick wins to move the Owls to a point from the clinch. Rice took five of six first sets of singles and Sarkar delivered the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over SMU's Carles Sarrio, who was ranked 68th in the most recent Oracle ITA computer rankings. Eskeland and Eric Rutledge were each extended to super tiebreakers after dropping their second sets, but each responded with wins to close out the match.
Up Next: The Owls wrap up their road swing on Tuesday when they face #3 Texas in Austin. They return home on the weekend of March 22-24 to host the 61st annual Rice Invitational.
