Owls Face Ole Miss at MGM Grand Main Event

HOUSTON — Rice looks to get back on track this Wednesday, Nov. 22, when it faces Ole Miss in the consolation game of the MGM Grand Main Event. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
Scouting Rice
• Rice is 1-3 after falling to UNLV, 95-68, in the opening game of the MGM Grand Main Event.
• Junior guard Connor Cashaw leads the team with 16.3 points and is tied for sixth in Conference USA with 7.3 rebounds. He is also averaging 3.0 assists and is tied for eighth in the league with 1.8 steals.
• Graduate guard A.J. Lapray is second on the team with 11.8 points. He is also tied for second in C-USA in three-pointers made per game (2.8) and is eighth in three-pointer field goal percentage (.524).
• Sophomore guard Ako Adams is averaging 11.5 points. He also is pulling down 4.0 boards and is third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.0) and fifth in assists (5.4).
• The Owls are averaging 70.2 points per game while allowing 77.0.
• Rice is connecting on just 40.7% from the floor and 35.7% from three. Its opponents are shooting 43.2% from the field but are being held to just 29.9% from beyond the arc.
• The Owls are grabbing 37.5 rebounds per game while allowing 39.0.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his first season leading the Rice men's basketball program after serving its last three years as its Associate Head Coach.
Scouting Ole Miss
• Ole Miss is 3-1 on the season after falling to Utah, 83-74, in its opening game of the MGM Grand Main Event.
• Junior guard Terence Davis leads the team with 17.8 points per game, which is good for 10th in the SEC. He is also second on the team with 5.8 rebounds and is fifth in the league with 2.8 three-pointers per game.
• Senior guard Deandre Burnett is second on the squad with 15.5 points. He is also seventh in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 52.9%.
• Freshman guard Devonte Shuler is averaging 10.5 points.
• Graduate guard Markel Crawford is fourth in the SEC in steals (2.8) and senior forward Marcanvis Hymon is eighth in the league in rebounds (7.8).
• The Rebels are scoring 82.5 points per game while allowing 76.5.
• Ole Miss is connecting on 46.6% from the field and 36.2% from three while allowing its opponents to hit 44.3% from the floor and 38.8% from beyond the arc.
• The Rebels are outrebounding their opponents, 36.2-to-35.2.
• Ole Miss is also second in the SEC in steals (8.3).
• Head coach Andy Kennedy is in his 12th season at the helm of the Ole Miss men's basketball program where he owns a 237-140 (.629) record. In 13 years as a head coach, Kennedy is 258-154 (.626).
Series History
• Rice and Ole Miss will meet for the just the fourth time and the first since 1993.
• The Owls lead the series, 2-1.
• This is the second meeting between the schools in an in-season tournament. The Rebels defeated Rice, 70-60, in the 1983 Krystal Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn.
