
Owls Bounce Back With Sweep Over LA Tech

HOUSTON, Texas - The Rice Owls volleyball team responded to a tough loss to North Texas on Friday with a convincing 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters Sunday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice (21-7, 11-3) bounced back from a tough, 3-0 loss on Friday to North Texas to keep their streak alive of not losing consecutive games all season. The Owls hit a blistering .398 (51-of-98) for the match while holding LA Tech (9-19, 1-13) to just .097.
The Owls never trailed at any point during the three sets, outgaining the Lady Techsters in kills (51-28), assists (49-28), digs (53-32) and blocks (4.0-2.0).
Sophomore Leah Mikesky recorded her team-leading 15th double-double of the season with a game-high 16 kills (.448) and 11 digs. Jillian Humphrey also had a monster offensive game with 10 kills while hitting .500 (10-of-16). Sophomore setter Sara Blasier set a team, three-set season-high with 42 assists, besting her 41-assist performance earlier this season versus Green Bay.
Rice had a day's best 21 kills in the opening set en route to a 25-18 victory. The Owls then proceeded to close the second set on a 15-6 run to win 25-14 and take a commanding 2-0 lead. In set three the Owls broke away after taking a 10-7 lead by outscoring the Lady Techsters 15-7 the rest of the way for the 25-14 win.
The Owls continue their four-game home stand next weekend when they host Marshall at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, followed by the C-USA leading UTSA Roadrunners in the regular season home finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
