SMU won seven of the meet's 11 swim events. The Mustangs also added 26 more points from two springboard diving events.
The Clark & Flanigan duo paced the Blue & Gray. Both posted a pair of individual season-best marks in two events each that are also best times so far in Conference USA. Flanigan swept both distance races with a 4:55.96 in the 500-yard freestyle and a 10:08.03 in the 1,000. Clark followed a victory in the 200-freestyle (1:51.14) with a steady 51.01 in the 100.
True freshman Kaitlyn Swinney had a solid 4:26.87 to finish second by a half-second in the 400-individual medley. Senior Madison Livingston was third in the Owls' first time to compete in the 400-IM this year.
Freshman Kiley Beall was second in the 100-butterfly with a 56.47. The mark is the fastest by an Owl this year and second-best time so far in the conference. Junior Taylor Armstrong scored for Rice with a second place in the 100-backstroke (59.11).
Rice also raced for the first time in the 400-free relay. A foursome of Cora McKenzie, Casey Clark, Marissa Konicke and Hannah Deters placed second with a 3:32.47.
The Owls have one more meet on schedule for the weekend road swing. Rice next competes at Conference USA foe North Texas on Saturday. The 16-event contest is set for 11 am in Denton, Texas.
