
Volleyball Drops Thrilling Match To LSU

HOUSTON- Rice's volleyball team dropped a thrilling four set match to LSU in the final game of the Rice Invitational I, playing two sets of more than 50 points. Lizzy Bache was named to the All-Rice Invitational I team.
Bache, who made her first all-tournament team, had 6 kills, two service aces and two blocks for 9.5 points. She hit .404 in the tournament, and ranked second in the tournament with 4 service aces.
Rice (1-5) broke two match points in the fourth set, an entertaining 31-29 affair that saw fantastic rallies from both sides of the net. LSU (6-0) broke two set points before taking the set, and the match.
The Owls were led by Mariah Riddlesprigger with 16 kills, six digs and two blocks. Chelsey Harris reached double figures in kills for the second time in her career with 10 kills off of .750 hitting.
Redshirt freshman Sara Blasier picked up a career-best 42 assists and seven digs.
Daniela Arenas picked up a season-high 23 digs, reaching double figures in digs for the third straight match, and ranking second in the tournament in digs per set. Kimberly Vaio had 14 digs, and has picked up double digits in every match this season.
Rice took a thrilling first set 28-26 over LSU, breaking two set points before a Jillian Humphrey block and a Riddlesprigger kill finished the Tigers in the set. LSU came back in the second set, leading wire-to-wire in a 25-15 victory for the Tigers.
Harris did everything she could in the third set, earning six kills on .714 hitting, but it was not enough as Rice fell 25-19.
The Owls take on Lamar on Sept. 10 in Beaumount, Texas.
