Rice will venture across town for its first, true road game of the year as the Owls take on Houston Baptist in Sharp Gym Wednesday night. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast by 1560 The Game (KGOW) while a video stream will be broadcast by FoxSportsHouston.
Rice, 4-2, will look to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping a pair of games over the Thanksgiving weekend at the South Padre Island Invitational. HBU, 2-4, will be in search of its second straight home-court win.
Last Friday, the Owls had a comeback fall short against Northern Iowa, losing to the Panthers 64-60. Rice erased most of a 14-point, second half UNI lead but never regained the lead in the final minutes. Iowa State defeated the Owls 90-63 on Saturday.
At 12.5 points per game, Tamir Jackson leads Rice in scoring. From his guard position, the junior from Paterson, N.J., is shooting an impressive 51.1 percent from the field and also leads the Owls with 18 assists.
Rice owns a 5-0 lead in its series with Houston Baptist. Wednesday's game will be the first played in the series played on the HBU campus.
HBU senior Joe Lats is averaging 13 points and 7.7 rebounds to lead the Huskies.
Houston Baptist has had to replace better than three-quarters of its offense from a season ago. Through six games, the Huskies have four players all scoring in double figures.
Behind Latas' team-leading average, junior Marcus Davis is averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while freshmen Tyler Russell and Ronald March are averaging 11.7 and 10.2 points, respectively.
Following Wednesday's game, Rice begins its second, four-game home stand of the year when the Owls play host to St. Thomas Saturday afternoon. HBU plays at Texas State on Saturday.
