Rice 80, Southern 65
- Tamir Jackson had 17 points at halftime en route to his career-high 29 points against Southern. Jackson was 9-for-13 from the field and knocked down 4-of-5 three-pointers.
- Jackson's previous career high was 25 points, also scored in a tournament. He had 25 against Oral Roberts last year in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
- In addition to registering his second straight double-double and 29th for his career, Arsalan Kazemi's five assists set a new career standard. He had four assists in home-court wins over Houston and Memphis last year.
- For the second time in as many games this season, Rice had a freshman score in double figures. Dyan Ennis came off the bench to score 14 points in the Owls' win over Southern. In last Saturday's season opener Julian DeBose scored 12 points to lead the Owls.
- After turning the ball over 25 times in the season opener, Rice had just nine turnovers against Southern. The Owls had only two turnovers at halftime.
- Rice has 14 blocks in two games. The Owls had 76 blocks in 2010-11.
