Rice University sophomore forward Arsalan Kazemi has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week following three games in as many days in which he averaged 21.7 points and 12.3 rebounds.
C-USA's Player of the Week is based on the voting of a media panel covering the 12 conference schools. Also on Monday Memphis guard Joe Jackson was selected Conference USA's Freshman of the Week.
Kazemi registered double-doubles in all three games last week during the 2010 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic en route to being named to the event's All-Tournament Team.
Over the three games Kazemi was 21-of-34 from the field (61.8 percent) and also knocked down 23-of-29 free throws (79.3 percent). He scored a career-high 26 points and also had 14 rebounds in the Owls' game against Miami. Kazemi also scored 20 points against Oral Roberts to mark the first time during his career he had registered back-to-back, 20-point games.
This is the first time in his career Kazemi has been named the Conference USA Player of the Week. He was also named C-USA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 1, 2010.
For the year Kazemi is averaging 17.2 points and 10.9 rebounds. Through 12 games this year he has posted eight double-doubles.
Rice, currently 6-6 on the year, returns to action Wednesday when the Owls play host to LSU. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Tudor Fieldhouse.
