LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Oral Roberts forward Dominique Morrison scored on a jumper in the lane with 2.5 seconds to play to help the Golden Eagles to an 80-78 win over Rice during the final day of the 2010 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.
Rice trailed by as many as 17 points with just over 13 minutes to play in the game but rallied late.
Rice sophomore guard Tamir Jackson scored a career-high 25 points in the loss and played a key role in the Owls' second half run. He converted a traditional three-point play and also nailed a three-pointer that got the deficit down to single figures.
Connor Frizzelle and Jackson knocked down consecutive treys to cut the ORU lead to 65-58 with 10 minutes to play.
Rice tied the game at 70-70 with an Arsalan Kazemi layin but could never take the lead in the final minutes which featured four ties.
Frizzelle's jumper with 18 seconds to play tied the score at 78-78 but Morrison got free for a look at the basket in the paint and knocked down the game-winning shot the Golden Eagles' final time on offense.
Jackson was 8-for-11 from the field and perfect on seven free throw attempts. Arsalan Kazemi added 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Damen Bell-Holter led ORU with 20 points.
Rice, 6-6, returns to action Dec. 29th when the squad plays host to LSU. Oral Roberts is now 5-7.
