Much like the Owls on the court, the Rice marketing staff is elevating its game to bring a wide-range of in-game and halftime promotions to the 2009-10 men's basketball season. Additionally, Rice students will also have a new, enhanced entrance into Tudor Fieldhouse which will provide a variety of interactive opportunities.
"We are excited about the team's play on the court and what a way to compliment good basketball by having a fun game-day atmosphere," said Ryan Holloway, assistant athletics director for marketing. "From the moment fans walk into Tudor Fieldhouse, we want them to feel they are coming to an event and not just a basketball game. Something will always be going during breaks in the actions to keep fans entertained."
The Rice student entrance will feature basketball arcade games, NBA Jam gaming consoles and more. The entrance opens two hours before tip-off.
"The students have turned out to sporting events in great numbers this year for all of our sports," Holloway said. "The basketball team would love to see the continued support at Tudor Fieldhouse. The enhanced student entrance and student section was started this year to thank the students that come out and to encourage more to come and enjoy a study break."
Every game one Rice fan will have a chance to win $5,000. Two different contests will be used during the season - The $5,000 Shoot, Turn and Shoot promotion and the $5,000 Series Shoot Out.
The Shoot, Turn and Shoot promotion will involve a contestant picking one spot on the court in which they must make a shot into each basket. It could be two half-court shots or a layup and a full-court heave. The Series Shoot Out will involve a contestant making a lay-up, free throw, three-point shot and half-court shot. If the contestant makes all four shots in the 25 second time allotment, they will win $5,000.
Several in-game promotions as well as activities during halftime are also scheduled for each home game.
