Richmond Defeats Rice, 61-55

HOUSTON - Dan Geriot scored 23 points and dished out four assists as Richmond defeated Rice 61-55 Tuesday at Reliant Arena.
With the win, the Spiders evened their record to 3-3. Rice, which fell to 0-3, will be looking for its first win of the season when the Owls close out a three-game home stand Nov. 27 against Arkansas-Little Rock in Reliant Arena.
Tuesday, the Owls were led by Cory Pflieger who scored 14 points off the bench. Pflieger had started the first two games of the year for Rice. Against Richmond he was 5-for-10 from the field and knocked down 4-of-9 three-pointers in 30 minutes of play.
Rice trailed by just one point, 29-28 when Patrick Britton made the first of two free throws with a minute to play in the first half but Richmond's Kevin Anderson knocked down a three-pointer in the period's final seconds to give the Spiders a 32-28 lead at the break.
Ryan Butler's three-pointer on the Spiders' first possession of the second half extended the lead to 35-28.
Richmond was up by as many as 11 points in the second period. The Owls scored six unanswered points late to cut the Spiders' lead to three, 58-55 with 15 seconds to play.
Paulius Packevicius, who finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, scored inside with 2:23 to play to cut the Spiders' lead to 58-51. After a pair of Richmond turnovers, Packevicius scored again on a short jumper to cut the margin to five.
After Richmond's Ryan Butler missed the front end of a one-and-one, Aleks Perka scored for the Owls on a tip in with 15 seconds to play.
But at the other end David Gonzalvez made a pair of three throws to extend the lead back to five, 60-55.
Anderson scored 16 points off the bench for Richmond. Rice freshman Jasen Williams scored 11 points and had five assists.
