Former Rice Owls point guard Lorenzo Williams (Killeen, Texas/Ellison H.S.) was selected by the Anaheim Arsenal in the ninth round during Thursday's NBA Development League draft.
"I am really happy to have the opportunity to play professionally in the D-League," commented Williams. "I've been working out with Orlando Woolridge and John Lucas in Houston in preparation for the upcoming basketball season."
Williams, a 2007 Rice graduate, completed his collegiate career ranked second on Rice's all-time assist list with 442 assists. He is the school's single-season assist record holder with 170 assists in 2006 and he credits Rice in his development as a player.
"I want to thank Coach Wilson and the Rice basketball program for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to play (NCAA) division one basketball," said Williams. "Coming to Rice and playing against a diverse opposition definitely prepared me for this good start."
The D-League preseason begins Thursday, Nov. 15 through Nov. 20. Final 10-man rosters must be set by Nov. 21 prior to the regular-season tipping off on Nov. 23.
