Rice will face the Western Carolina Catamounts in the consolation game of the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic. The Owls lost to Belmont 87-85 as Morris Almond led Rice with 28 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman point guard Chris Hagan scored 16 points, while Patrick Britton added 10.
WCU was beaten by Saint Mary's College 93-82. Freshman Nick Aldridge scored a career-high 28 points for WCU, now 5-7. Antonio Russell leads the squad in scoring at 16.1 ppg, while Aldridge follows at 14.6 ppg.
All-America Morris Almond has been in double-digits for all 10 games this season. He has scored 297 points for a 29.7 scoring average to lead Rice. Almond also leads the Owls in rebounding (6.1) and he is number one in the nation in scoring.
Following Friday's contest vs. Western Carolina, the Owls return home to play Vanderbilt on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7:05 pm.
