Series: First meeting
The Owls take their three-game winning streak westward as they compete in the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic hosted by Saint Mary's College. Rice is playing Belmont in the tournament's first contest on Thursday, Dec. 28, while Saint Mary's hosts Western Carolina. Rice and the Bruins are meeting for the first, while the Owls are 2-0 vs. the Gaels, and are 0-0 vs. WCU.
All-America candidate Morris Almond has been in double-digits for all nine games this season. He has scored 269 points for a 29.9 scoring average to lead Rice. Almond also leads the Owls in rebounding (5.9). His 29.9 scoring average is is number one in the nation just ahead of Jackson State's Trey Johnson at 29.1.
Belmont has lost its last two games after winning four in a row. The Bruins are led in scoring by Justin Hare's 15.5 scoring average.
Saint Mary's is 6-8 overall and in the middle of a four-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Western Carolina is 5-6 and has lost its last two contests.
The Owls will either play Saint Mary's or WCU on Friday, Dec. 29.
